vignette

so this is the vignette that i created.i wanted to choose a very soft and calm theme so i chose white as my base colour. at first i was going to do the vignette in my room but didn't like how it looked because my room is a mellow green. i used the hallway cupboard as my background because i really liked the effect of how the shutter looked and how it worked very well since it was a white creamed colour. i based my vignette around the lettering 'love' and my teddy bear because they mean a lot to me. i just happen to find all the other pieces and they really represent myself. first thing that came to mind that would go with this vignette were candles and i'm a big fan of candles so i had them in my room. i also used my little lamp that i had gotten from ikea. the box i got from a friend as a present along with jewelry. i really liked the turnout of this vignette overall because it really describes me and is simple.

free blog !

first thing i thought of were flowers. i think having flowers whether they are real or artificial really brings a room together. i love flowers and my mom always have fresh flowers around the house. they are simple and pretty looking which just completes a room.

i personally prefer real flowers but they cost more since you have to replace them when they die. with artificial flowers, they can last forever without changing them. you just have to clean them since they tend to become dirty. with buying just a few flowers real ones are more expensive which is why people usually only get them for a special occasion.

with flowers comes vases. it's true when people say it's the little things that matter. vases comes in many different shapes and sizes. they also vary from being plain and simple to colourful and busy. the flower choices and vase should also compliment each other. for example if i had just one kind of flower that were simple i would use a colourful vase. and in the opposite way if i had a variety of flowers and colours i would choose a simple vase as the base.

the last thing i would like to talk about are the filling and different things we can put in the bottom of the vase. t's only reasonable to put it in clear glass so that we can see it. like the above examples, we can add colours or make the vase multipurpose and add fishes. we can put almost anything in the bottom as long as it works from rocks and pebbles to petals or sand and seashells. the vase itself can be very detailed and creative !

window treatment

today's post is going to be about window treatments. this topic is going to help me in reality because we are moving soon and my mom wants me to find window treatments that would go with the house. personally curtains are my favourite. they can be long and sleek or big and filling. curtains are very elegant and would work well with big windows. also the curtains are made out of fabric so would soften the room and make it more welcoming.

roman shades are next. this is the first time i've seen this design and i really like it. unlike curtains and drapes, roman shades are more clean and doesn't clutter the room with the hanging extra fabric. i particularly liked how the roman shades are used in this design picture. roman shades are lighter because there is less fabric and it is more modern. i think it would be more ideal to use these in small windows. i think i just might get these for my new room !

& the last window treatment i chose to write about are the ordinary blinds. blinds are very common because it's cheaper and simple. i think overall these are the most useful and practical one although they don't look the best. they can be adjusted to any height and the blinds can open up or close blocking the sun out. they can be made out of slats of fabric, metal, plastic or wood. the most common ones i see are the white metal ones which i also have in my current room.

VOCABULARY:

  • finial: the artistic figure used as a decoration at the end of curtains, flags or even buildings.

  • tie back: the piece of fabric, hook, or any other material that hold the curtain back when it's drawn.

  • curtain liners: i am not sure if i'm correct but according to what i found, curtain liners are curtains but for showers.

  • valence: just like valence electrons in science, valance are the outter part of curtains. it is above the curtains and covers the rod. it adds more detail to the curtains.

  • grommets: the rings that are put into the hole of fabrics for curtains so that the curtains don't rip.

bed linens with ugly rug

i chose this taupe coloured bed sheets because i didn't want the designs to be too cluttered and busy. keeping the the bedsheets a neutral colour will balance out the crazy designs. i also didn't choose white sheets because it would've been too bright with the colours on the rug since its more of a brown-ish colour. the pricing of these sheets vary from $34.99 - #59.99 depending on the size of the bed and the pillow cases would be an extra $25.99.

the duvet i chose was the Hudson Street Chocolate 8-piece Duvet covers. it has the same colour scheme as the rug and would go very well with it. the colours of the duvet are pretty solid with simple designs putting all the attention on the beloved rug of the homeowners.  the dark brown and murky dark yellow also gives it a very nature look. the duvets wouldn't overpower the rug. with this set i wouldn't want to add any other pillows since i like the way these ones look as a whole. the cost of this duvet set varies from $69.99 - $99.99 also depending on the size.

the bed skirt i chose was a very simple one. it didn't have any ruffles or anything like that. i would choose the colour on the bottom right side of the picture because it would blend in with the covers. since i am trying to focus on the rug  making it my focus centre i didn't want to add a whole lot to the bedding other than the duvet covers. the price of the bed skirt is $24.99- 39.99.

last but not least, i picked the dark brown throw because the colour really goes with the design as a whole and adds more texture to the room. it's an earthy rich brown colour that really blends well with the rug also ! the pricing or this throw is $24.99

so in total over this room would cost about $180.00 if it were for the twin bed which the least expensive ones.

lamps

the DIY lamp i chose to do my assignment on is the Mason Jar Lamp. i liked the idea of reusing the jars and using it as a lamp. It has a very natural and simple look but at the same time, personally i think it looks kind of clustered. it would look better as a decorations and maybe even with different colour light bulbs inside.

lamps are an important part of design because a lamp can say a lot about a room. lamps vary from being detailed to simple, colourful to dull etc. sizes of the lamps vary so it can be a small detail that ties the room together or the centre of attention in the room. it also is a benefit because it has multipurpose, it's decorates the room and provides lighting. I think it's the small little details like lamps that ties a room together and makes it complete.

i have to say i'm a big fan of candles. i have them in my room as a decoration and light them every night during the wintertime. i cannot sleep without a bit of light so i either use a small lamp in my room or i light a candle. the first design of candle holders i thought was nice is the one that has different levels. it has one bas and has different stems that hold each candle. i like how it's not just boring with one height and how it varies. it can hold little candles or the longer ones.

the next design, are the mini holders that hold a small candle in each. it can be elegant or very simple depending on the design. i also find anything that is small very cute! these ones have a bit more height and is more formal compared to other ones that are pretty much like a bowl that fits the candles. these mini short ones includes design that are in shapes of jars, dishes or cups.

last, i chose this one because it is very girly. I like the little designs on the candle holder making it look like a chandelier. and instead of being simple like the previous one, it hangs from a hook of the pole in the middle. leaving the candle holder dangling makes it feel lighter and makes it have a flow to it.

freebie blog, by berinder purewal

Pillows can make a huge difference in a room. They can make a simple couch look nice. They come in many different sizes, shapes and colours. They can work as a accent piece in many rooms.A great thing about pillows is they can be really cheap or very expensive depending on what your looking for,but you can get a decent pillow for about 20 dollars.
These yellow pillows really help accent the room bringing out the yellow in the flowers and in the drapery. The pillows behind them look good two using the same material that is in the drapery.

This is a perfect example of how pillows can add colour to a simple room. These green colourful pillows accent this mostly plain white room. They make a room that otherwise would look a bit boring have a pop of colour.

These pillows really add detail too this room. The room is otherwise really plain but the detailing in the pillows really ties this room together.I love this room!

These are just some examples of some funky pillows I found. Its amazing how much a difference pillows can have in a room. The first one is a fur cheetah a pillow,The second one is a really bright pink fur pillows and the last one is some sequined pillows!

bedroom

welcome to my room ! i picked out parts of it that i really like so here goes. first part of the tour is my shelf. i put things on it that represent myself. one one side i have really pink and girly things and the other side is all about hockey. i'm a flames fan!

next part is my wall. on one wall i covered it with a lot of pictures. family and friends are really important to me so i wanted to make it stand out in my room. i was going to make a heart shape out of the pictures but i gave up after it took too long. i found the lettering at Home Sense and knew i had to have it. there were other words too and i'm working on getting the rest. they are pretty pricey though since it's about $20 for each word.

i'm a big fan of ikea because everything is so modern and cute. I usually use candles or night lights so i decided to get this little lamp light. its like a candle but is actually a light instead. i think that it's really cute and girly. ikea has a lot of cute affordable things to decorate a room.

this is my headboard. i was buying new furniture for my room and i didn't know what to buy. i didn't want the typical wooden headboard and i really liked the modern but simple look of this leather headboard. I kind of had an idea of what i wanted but wasn't sure until i saw it.
i really wanted a board so i can put all the random things i keep. i got this at Staples and its half white board. i put pictures, tickets and quotes according to my mood. to me, my room is very reflective. i can change things easily to how i feel.
